APT Research, Inc. will be hosting the SRE meeting this month. This monthly meeting will be a joint meeting with ISSS (International System Safety Society). The location will be at APT Research, Inc., 4950 Research Drive, NW, Huntsville, AL 35805 (APTResearchInc-Map). Contact Tori Smith at sre.smith.tori@gmail.com if you question or need directions and/ or assistance. There will be a business meeting starting at 11:00 and the technical presentation Addressing Uniqueness and Unison of Reliability and Safety For Better Integration following by Dr. Fayssal Safie .
Abstract:
This presentation addresses the uniqueness and unison of safety and reliability in their respective roles, requirements, approaches and tools. It emphasizes the point that safety and reliability are unique but compensating each other in many aspects, and need to be integrated. More specifically, although safety is intended to maximize the product safety while reliability is intended to maximize achievability of the design functions, the two disciplines are strongly related in terms of requirements, tools and analysis techniques. Case studies are also provided to demonstrate the strong link between the two disciplines.
Bio of Dr. Fayssal Safie:
Dr. Fayssal Safie is currently serving as the A-P-T research principle engineer. He retired from NASA after 30 years where he served in many positions including the NASA Technical Fellow for Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) engineering. Dr. Safie received over 50 honors and awards and published over 40 papers in R&M Engineering, Probabilistic Risk Assessment, System Safety, and Quality Engineering. Dr. Safie has also served as an Adjunct Professor in the Systems Engineering Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) for over 20 years. He has a Bachelor’s degree in science and a Bachelor’s, a Master’s, and a Doctorate in engineering.
